In the early years (when Class 33s carried a number beginning "D" and were painted green) they spent a great deal of time shunting goods and coal yards at individual stations, although these duties waned when the yards became car parks. 33063 remembers past times by shunting wagons west of Groombridge. 22.06.2008 0198

6583 at Lingfield with the 10:20 Newhaven to East Grinstead freight on Saturday 10.10.1970. The train was to be used on engineering works at Dormans the next day and had been shunted to the Up line to allow the 14:09 from Victoria to go past. Nowadays it is not generally advised that three people not wearing high-viz should engage in conversation with the driver whilst standing on a track upon which a train is signalled to pass. "Please don't try this at home". Eric Kemp retains all rights to this image.
