75027 92240 Repainting
In 2011 and 2012 a donor funded professional repainting of 75027 and 92240 in order that they could be better conserved at no cost to the Bluebell Railway. During the work it became apparent that more funding would be needed. The donor asked for a costing of the required work with a view to allocating funds when costs were clearly expressed. The railway did not provide the necessary costing, and in the absence of financial information the donor refused to provide additional money. Accordingly the work was not completed.

Michelle Barton was preparing the tender for painting. The difference between the treated end of the tender and the section that was being rubbed down is clear. The section nearest to the camera is now smooth to the touch. Compare the surface also to the cab door to see the progress that is being achieved. Rubbing down has shown that the original undercoats on 75027 have largely failed and turned to a chalky texture, whereas the original undercoats on 92240 are in slightly better condition.
