Sheffield Park Carriage Shed (Woodpax HLF Project) 2011

The Woodpax site formed the basis for Phase 3 of Operation Undercover, which provided covered accomodation for up to 17 carriages, a new museum building, a new locomotive washout pit, and the repair and reconstruction of the platform buildings and canopy and provision of toilets on platform 2 at Sheffield Park Station. The total project cost was £3.9 million, of which £2.875 million was covered by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Please note that the Sheffield Park Carriage Shed and the Locomotive Washout Pit are strictly out of bounds except to authorised personnel.

Three collections feature the construction of the Sheffield Park Carriage Shed, covering 2012, 2011 and 2009-2010 respectively. Together there are approximately 1260 photos available, arranged in roughly date order, with the most recent at the start of each gallery.

The left hand arrow indicates the end of the solid concrete base (which would obstruct track) and the right hand arrow shows the gap for track which has been filled by blockwork (capable of removal). This has disposed of spoil outside the Carriage Shed and resulted in a wider embankment on the western side.
