Sheffield Park Carriage Shed (Woodpax HLF Project) 2011
Three collections feature the construction of the Sheffield Park Carriage Shed, covering 2012, 2011 and 2009-2010 respectively. Together there are approximately 1260 photos available, arranged in roughly date order, with the most recent at the start of each gallery.

A new gate clarifies the arrangements at the end of Platform 2, with the slope down to the Pullman servicing area closed to public access. The existing viewing area is retained, but the combination of the new ramp and the wide original fence means that wheelchair access to the viewing area cannot be achieved. Hopefully someone has thought of this. 06.02.2011 5812

This shot shows the northern end of the site before spring growth blocks the view. From right to left the green arrows indicate the temporary bat roost (to be dismantled in due course); the lifting barrier that admitted water from the River Ouse into the pipes feeding the old Pump House; the gabion wall protecting the carriage shed from the river; the original Pump House; and the outlet from the new drainage system. The blue arrow is the trench down to the River Ouse. 06.02.2011 5833

This shot of the outlet pipe is annotated with blue arrows to indicate the approximate point reached by the River Ouse during the recent flood. Contrast this point with the normal level of the river in the bottom left hand corner. The river cannot normally rise further as excess water then drains through the (normally dry) Poleay Bridge to the north, which acts as an overflow. 06.02.2011 5835

The side of the original Pump House. The bottom courses of the brickwork are still damp where the river left it's mark. The contractors appear not to share our confidence as (arrowed) is a lifebelt!! This may still be useful for extracting PWay from the mud.... 06.02.2011 5836

Contractors were working to join the taller northern section of the canopy to the southern section. Both tongue and groove panels and zinc will be used to achieve a watertight seal. 03.02.2011 5692

It is no longer intended to have a second (higher) concrete slab, as there is no practicable way to pour it now that the sides of the shed have been closed up. Instead the track will be laid on sleepers. In consequence the drains have been lowered to the new floor level. The kerb at the top of the picture indicates the floor height that was originally envisaged. The two circles are cable ducts, temporarily blocked to prevent material entering during track laying. 03.02.2011 5641
