Horsted Keynes on 16.03.1969. 27 is in there somewhere! No canopy on Platform 1 & 2 in those days; indeed no track in Platform 1. The conductor rail has vanished and the arm has been removed from the Platform 2 Down starting signal. The lattice post is now in use for the Outer Home signal at Sheffield Park.
Bluebell before it had tankside crests. 16.03.1969 In the foreground the picture catches a permissive shunt signal, yellow with black stripe. It allowed a driver to pass the signal except when going out to the main line. It was commonly found at the exit from yards or sidings, allowing shunting to take place within the yard without the signalman being involved. This example is a miniature arm but the disc version was more common. Such signals are no longer used on the Bluebell Railway.
