BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0, 92240, arrived on the Bluebell Railway on 5 October 1978 and was last operational in November 2002.
It is currently awaiting an overhaul, which is not thought to be a particularly complex undertaking.
The engine has been moved to Horsted Keynes Station, where it has been on display. Together with 75027 the engine is currently being repainted to a professional standard at no cost to the Bluebell Railway to help with conservation of the locomotives. The work has been funded by an anonymous donor.

On 18 March members of the 9F Club continued with their most useful task of helping to maintain the engines. This is one of 75027's wheels after the 9F team had cleaned it. Horsted Keynes. 20.03.2012 3857

The offside cylinder on 75027 has now been rubbed down and treated with Chelade. A chemical reaction effectively kills any rust, and a base is created for the various undercoats. Horsted Keynes. 20.03.2012 3859
The nearside cylinder on 75027 is also being prepared for undercoat. Horsted Keynes. 20.03.2012 3855

Michelle Barton was preparing the tender for painting. The difference between the treated end of the tender and the section that was being rubbed down is clear. The section nearest to the camera is now smooth to the touch. Compare the surface also to the cab door to see the progress that is being achieved. Rubbing down has shown that the original undercoats on 75027 have largely failed and turned to a chalky texture, whereas the original undercoats on 92240 are in slightly better condition.
